London Mosaic

About London Mosaic

London Mosaic is a tiling business in London founded by Julian Hill, who studied art and ceramics before discovering historical mosaics in 1998. The business was established as London Mosaic Restoration Ltd in 2005 and specialises in Victorian and Edwardian geometric floor tiles, micro mosaics and contemporary mosaic patterns. Services include design consultancy, tile supply, restoration of period geometric and mosaic flooring, and installation using the business's own sheeted tile system.

The business designs and supplies tiles in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian styles, with 32 colours and 22 shapes available in the heritage reproduction range. Designs can be customised with alternative borders, colour variations and new tessellations, or recreated from photographs of existing floors. Restoration work covers deep cleaning and sealing, replacement of damaged tiles, colour matching, extensions and alterations, salvage and reinstallation, and reproduction of missing encaustics. Survey, assessment and documentation are also offered.

London Mosaic developed a unique sheeted tile system that pre-assembles tiles in accurately spaced sections using polythene adhesive sheets, making installation more efficient and eliminating broad grout lines. The business moved to a dedicated industrial unit in Forest Hill to refine production and meet growing demand. Team members including Dan and Ingo have worked with Julian since the beginning. The business has undertaken prestigious projects including survey work documenting mosaics by artist Eduardo Paolozzi, and tiling at Sloane hotel with waterjet-cut tiles, hand-assembled micro mosaics and chequerboard designs.
