What a tiler charges by the day

A tiler's day rate is £200 to £350 in Checkatrade's 2026 tiling cost guide and £150 to £200 in MyJobQuote's, so £150 to £350 across both. MyJobQuote adds £50 to £100 a day in London. A day covers 10 to 15 m² of wall or 8 to 12 m² of floor on Checkatrade's figures, labour only.

What is a tiler's day rate?

Checkatrade's tiling cost guide (June 2026) puts it at £200 to £350 a day. MyJobQuote's floor and bathroom tiling guides (July and September 2026) put it at £150 to £200 a day. Its wall tiling guide (September 2026) gives £150 to £250. The guides measure different samples, so the combined range is £150 to £350. Checkatrade's large format guide gives an average of about £250 a day for large format work. These are labour only: tiles, adhesive and grout are on top.

How does London compare?

MyJobQuote's floor and wall tiling guides put London £50 to £100 a day above the north. Outside London the cost guides do not break rates down by region.

What does a day rate buy?

On a prepared surface, Checkatrade says a tiler lays 10 to 15 m² of wall or 8 to 12 m² of floor a day. That is how a day rate turns into a price per m²; the guides quote labour at about £50 per m² (Checkatrade's average), £15 to £25 per m² for floors and £20 to £40 per m² in bathrooms (MyJobQuote). Preparation, cuts and patterns all reduce the area, so the same day rate buys fewer square metres on a fiddly job.

Day rate or price per m²?

Many tilers quote a fixed price for a defined job, worked out per m² with preparation priced separately. A day rate suits small jobs, repairs and work where the time is hard to predict, such as restoration or a room with many cuts. For a small job, expect a half day or a day as the minimum. Either way, ask for the price in writing with what it covers.

Why do rates differ?

Experience, demand, overheads and the kind of work all move a rate. A tiler who mostly lays large porcelain or natural stone, or who brings a second person, will often charge more per day and cover more ground. A low day rate is not cheaper if the job takes longer or needs redoing.
