What moves the price

  • The wall. Stripping old tiles, filling hollows or lining a poor wall with backer board all come before tiling and are priced on top.
  • Weight and size. Heavy porcelain and stone need a background that can carry them and take longer to hang than light ceramic.
  • Cuts and corners. Windows, pipes, sockets and outside corners add time; a plain wall with few cuts is the quickest work there is.
  • Edge finish. Mitred corners take longer than plastic or metal trims.
  • Region. MyJobQuote's wall tiling guide puts London labour £50 to £100 a day above the north.
