Published cost guide figures checked 2 October 2026, not quotes from listed tilers. Checkatrade's £50 per m² averages all tiling labour; MyJobQuote's lower figure is for floors. The base under the tiles is the figure that varies most between homes, so a tiler needs to see it before quoting.
What moves the price
- The base. Overboarding a timber floor, priming an anhydrite floor or pouring a levelling compound all come before the tiles and are priced on top.
- Tile size. Very large tiles need a flatter floor and two people to lay; small tiles mean more grout lines and more time.
- Removing the old floor. Checkatrade's removal guide gives about £13 per m² to lift ceramic floor tiles, and £6 per m² to prepare the floor after.
- Layout. Herringbone or diagonal patterns take longer and waste more tile than a straight lay.
- Region. MyJobQuote's floor guide says London day rates run £50 to £100 more than in the north.
