What moves the price
- Area. Most tilers price walls and floor by the square metre or by the day; Checkatrade's guide puts labour at about £50 per m², MyJobQuote's bathroom guide at £20 to £40.
- What comes off first. Stripping old wall tiles and making good the wall behind can add a day before any new tile goes on.
- Tanking. Waterproofing the shower area is a separate cost, £100 to £250 in MyJobQuote's floor tiling guide depending on the area.
- Tile size and type. Small mosaics and large porcelain both take longer to lay than standard ceramic, and natural stone needs sealing.
- Who supplies the tiles. A price with tiles supplied is not comparable with a labour-only price; ask each tiler to quote the same way.

Questions about bathroom tiling
How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?
£800 to £1,200 for walls and floor in Checkatrade's 2026 tiling cost guide, or £900 to £2,050 with ceramic tiles supplied in MyJobQuote's bathroom guide. A bath surround alone is £375 to £800 on MyJobQuote's figures.
Is it cheaper to tile half the bathroom wall?
Usually, because labour is priced by area and half-height tiling is fewer square metres. The shower area still needs full height and tanking, so the saving is on the walls away from water.
