Underfloor heating figures from Checkatrade's underfloor heating guide and tiling labour from MyJobQuote and Checkatrade, checked 2 October 2026; not prices from tilers on this site. What moves the price

  • Room size. Checkatrade's figure is per m² of heated floor; the mat is laid only where there are no fixed units.
  • Insulation. Boards under the mat on a concrete floor add materials and a little height, and make the floor warm up faster.
  • Levelling. Some systems are covered with a thin levelling compound before tiling, which adds a day's drying.
  • Electrical work. Connecting the system, and notifying it where Part P requires, is an electrician's separate price.
  • Renovation or new build. Checkatrade's guide puts a renovation at £60 to £85 per m² and a new build at £50 to £75.

Questions about underfloor heating and tiling

How long after tiling can you turn underfloor heating on?

Usually not for a week or more, and then gradually. The adhesive and grout makers give a waiting time and a warm-up schedule; turning it on full too soon can crack the tiles.
