All figures are from MyJobQuote's patio cost guide, checked 2 October 2026, not prices from tilers on this site. Ground work varies most between gardens; a quote should say what depth of sub-base is included.
What moves the price
- Ground work. Digging out and laying a compacted sub-base is the biggest variable, and is often priced separately from the tiling.
- The porcelain. MyJobQuote puts the slabs alone at £50 to £100 per m², so the choice of tile moves the total a long way.
- Bedding. A full mortar bed and slurry primer on every slab take longer than dab bedding, and last longer.
- Drainage. Channels at doors and getting the falls right add time where a patio meets the house.
- Steps and edges. Cutting and fixing steps, edges and borders is slower than open areas.

Questions about outdoor tiling
Do tilers lay patios?
Some do and some leave them to landscapers. Tilers more often take on balconies, steps and indoor-outdoor floors through bifold doors. Ask before you book a visit.
